AVOID LIST
> Home > Feeding Info > Clean Feeding > Avoid List

We advocate and aim to promote overall health with a whole (‘clean’ as possible) food diet to provide the best opportunity for your horse's digestive & health to thrive. Various reasons for the avoid list ranging from GMO’s, Sugar/Starch levels, inflammatory & antagonistic properties, creator or contributor of oxidative stress, heavy metal contamination, spray usage in the growing or processing, anti-nutrients, effects on digestive tract, estrogenic effects, endocrine disruptor and so on.
Read your feed bags!!!
Our recommendations to avoid:
- Premixed commercial feeds with ADDED minerals especially Iron (Ferrous), Manganese & Potassium
- ANY vague feed ingredient like ‘roughage products’, ‘processed grain by-products’ or ‘vegetable proteins’
- ALL poly unsaturated oils - soy, sunflower, rice bran, canola/rapeseed, vegetable
- ALL Soy products - soy bean meal, soy hulls, extruded soya beans, dehulled soybean meal, plant protein products, soybean oil, soybean hulls, lecithin
- Canola aka Rapeseed oil/meal - don't recommend ANY of it
- Sunflower oil/seed/meal - alone is not a balanced form of omega’s. Sunflower meal can be used in combination with fresh crushed linseed or flax flake to balance out the high omega 6 in sunflower. It is preferred to use solely a linseed or flaxseed source for omega supplementation for ease of use and your budget.
- Maize, corn, corn gluten meal
- Beet Pulp (personal choice to feed, beware of potential issues - refer Beet Pulp download)
- Rye and Clover - as much as feasibly possible
- Molasses (Pure Organic Blackstrap Molasses has a place nutritionally - not used in premixed feeds)
- Wheat - bran, pollard, broll, by products, mill run, middling's
- Plastic wrapped fermented product for 90% of horses. Has its time and place, just make sure it is the best fit for your equine.
