HHIO ULCER PROTOCOL

Dealing with ulcers and avoiding their return, we recommend the following:

• Herbal Ulcer product 60 days – ongoing if can’t determine underlying route cause – HHIO Support + HHIO Rebuild (soon to be one product)

• Liver Cleanse 60 days (James Hart herbal ‘Detox’)

• Probiotic – 60 days daily then weekly thereafter (such as Equibrew)

• Balance minerals with either HHIO Foundation or HHIO Performance - alongside the next point.  Unbalanced Iron, Manganese, Copper + Zinc contributes to oxidative stress and digestive deregulation.

• Clean feeding as advocated by HHIO (remove ALL the avoid ingredients and commercial processed feed)

• Mineral Clay aka Bentonite clay (good quality from health shop) – 30g daily – activated in water in a separate feed daily – when you return to riding you can give 30g half hour before and/or half hour after riding.  It must be activated in water before feeding – it goes like a gel like substance as it increases the surface area of the clay and will assist in sealing ulcer holes.  Can syringe in or with a small feed of chaff.  This is typical treatment for general ulcer like symptoms.  

• In more serious cases, then the use of Omaprazole via your vet for short term use is recommended alongside the Mineral clay but fed separately.  You can do the above protocol for 15-20days first before doing vet treatment if you chose or you can start straight away (especially if serious).  It will always be faster (but more expensive) to treat alongside Omaprazole initially, but for milder cases the above protocol is a strong start to getting the ulcers healing.

It is important that the underlying cause of the ulcers is addressed as the reoccurrence of ulcer is highly likely.
